Edith was one of Alaska Steamship Company's iron freighters. On one of her voyage from Nome to Tacoma in late August 1915, the Edith was caught in a heavy storm. Apparently laden with a cargo of copper concentrate, she began to flounder and eventually sank in the Gulf of Alaska. There were no fatalities as the crew of 37 had abandoned ship earlier and was picked up by the S. S. Mariposa.
