Description Title taken from caption. View of grass sprouting in the tracks left by a bear in the soft mud. The grass seed would blow across the smooth surface of the mud and only find a place to take root in the indentations of the bear tracks. Photo taken at what was later designated as Katmai National Park and Preserve, Alaska, during a National Geographic Society expedition to Katmai area. 1917. Photographer: Robert F. Griggs.
