vamp
and
high
ankle
flaps

made

smoked
moose
hide
and
decorated
with
spot
stitch
beading
on the
vamp
. The
heel
seam
is
t-shaped
. A
piece
of
commercially
tanned
leather
has been
recycled
and
sewn
to the
exterior
of the
soles
. "

" has
two
holes
in the
original
sole
at the
ball
of the
foot
.
Draw
string
tie
cords
have been
added
. The
beadwork
is
of the
Yukon-Tanana
style
based
on
Duncan
. The
moccasins
are
sinew
sewn
. The
beadwork
is
thread
sewn
.
Welting
is
used
only
on the
moccasin/flap
seam
.

on a
commercial
white
cloth
tag
, in
pencil

Hudson
Stuck
Archdeacon
of the
Yukon
gave
me
these. He
traveled

mushed
" in
them.

reverse

Notes
: These
moccasins
have been "
resoled
" by
sewing
a
new
sole
of
commercial
leather
over
holes
worn
in the
original
smoked
moosehide
. This
style
of
Athabaskan
moccasins
was not
previously
represented
in
our
collection
. They are also of
interest
in their
association
with an
historic
person
.
