Description |
Ta'giuqtigapta Tuapaktusu'gmi Immersion Camp: Iñupiaq Land Use Values and Resources Video: 1 minute and 28 seconds, MPG-1 format. Jana Harchauk (Nagruk) prepares a portion of the intestine where one must first remove the contents of the intestine. This is the seal gut that Iñupiaq people once used for seal gut rain gear. She ties one end really tight so air will not escape and after rinsing it thoroughly, she inflates it. Jana ties the other end so that the inflated intestine can dry. Once dried, it can be split open and spread out as a sheet that can be used for garments, bags, or at one time, the translucent windows of sod houses. |
