JOSEPHINE CRUMRINE is a young Alaska artist who lives in
the Territory and specializes in painting dogs and animals.
The most recent of Miss Crumrine's many exhibits was at
the American Museum of Natural History in New York
City. In the dog portraits featured in this current series
of menus Miss Crumrine has captured the spirit of the
Old Alaska when the chief mode of transportation was the
husky-drawn sled. Her medium was pastels, here repro-
duced by four-color lithography.
HUSKY PUPPIES
These fluffy balls of fur are real Alaska huskies,
perhaps destined within the next few years to
win renown on the winter snows of the north.
Miss Crumrine reported difficulty in keeping the
little sleepyheads awake long enough to catch
their best expressions, but she seems to have
done very well between naps.
Sets of these menus, with envelopes for mailing, are
available from the chief steward free of charge.

"Surprise Ports"
Isolated canneries in hidden
inlets depend on The Alaska
Line to transport the fish pack
and bring in supplies.
To tourists these unscheduled
"surprise ports" offer delight-
ful glimpses of Alaska not
revealed on the conventional
cruise. To residents of the
Territory the calls are part of
the broad service they have
come to expect during nearly
half a century that this pioneer
transportation company has
served Alaska.
