Fifty-five
years
of the
history
of
Alaska's
struggle
toward
self-government
were
recalled
in
Washington
this
week
when
Frank
A.
Waskey
,
right
,
called
in
1906
as
Alaska's
first
delegate
in
congress
following
enactment
of the
law
which
gave
Alaska
its
first
representation
at the
national
capital
. He
served
a
short
term
in
1906-07
.
Still
interested
in
governmental
affairs
at the
age
of
86
,
Waskey
came
to
Washington
to be
honored
at a
luncheon
arranged
by
Senator
Gruening
.
Mr
. and
Mrs
.
Waskey
now
live
at
Olney
,
Maryland
. As
recently
as
1957
the
former
delegate
visited
Alaska
and
paddled
and
poled
a
small
boat
along
the
arctic
littoral
collecting
Eskimo
artifacts
.
