"'After the Tragedy - This group of men , all of whom figured prominently in the life of Ben Eielson , are shown as they stood together at an unidentified location in Fairbanks after Eileson's and Borland's bodies had been returned to Alaska . They are from left to right front row : Peter Nickoloff , Joe Crosson , Mat Neimenan , Bill Hughes , Sam Macauley . Second row : Commander Slipnev , man with Mustache unidentified , Fahrig (Russian) Third row : R - L Harrold Gillam , Mayor De la Vargne , President Bunnell and Otto W . Geist. ' From Eielson Friendly Times July 26 1957 Memorial Edition . [Illegible] On steps of Old Main building. " In the front row , the second man from left is identified as Joe Crosson . In fact , Crosson is the second man from right .
