Caption on photograph : To E . L . "Bob " Bartlett , a true Alaska pioneer , sincere best regards , Noel Wien . Verso : July 1924 , from left : James Rodebough , owner of the two planes . Eddie Hudson , Fairbanks born son , taking flying lessons & pilot Noel Wien . These two Hisso Standards were the only airplanes doing commercial air travel flying in the summers of 1924 & 1925 in the whole territory . In 1926 flying was started in Anchorage & other towns . These planes are "Gates Day Standards " used in first world war for training using the famous Curtiss O x 5-90 hp engines as power . Later on in the States after the war for pass(enger) & stunt flying were converted from O x 5 to Wright built French design Hispano Susza 150 hp , which was a better engine and gave the standard much higher performance .
