Title
No . 3Y down the river , May 1904 .
Description
Title from caption .Three riverboats appear to have been lashed together . Oarsmen are on each end of the boat . Presumably the boats are taken downriver by the current and the oarsmen are able to steer the assemblage of boats so as to prevent getting hung up on sand bars or other obstacles . The three boats are loaded with freight . In the distance a stern wheeler can be seen . The man on the left appears to be sitting on a piling -- possibly part of a pier . An inscription on the photograph reads , "C.L.A. " According to the finding aid about Falcon Joslin's photos , "the bulk of the photos are of Fairbanks and the Tanana Valley. " Based on the finding aid , it is assumed this photo is of a river in Interior Alaska -- possibly the Tanana River at Nenana .
