Description
Photograph with a press release included which reads : Case Of The Missing Watercolor--Secretary of the Interior Stewart L . Udall , right , presents to Senator Ernest Gruening (D-Alaska) the reproduction of a painting depicting the transfer of Russian Alaska to the United States in 1867 . Painted by Harry C . Wood in 1937 , the watercolor has been missing since then and was found last month only after a search had been initiated by Senator Gruening . A request to locate the painting came from Constantine D . Maxutov of Sitka , grandson of the Russian representative to the Czar before transfer and Mrs . Romaine Hardcastle of the Sitka Chamber of Commerce . Senator Gruening will send a full color copy of the watercolor to Sitka for exhibit on Seward's Day , March 30 . A photograph of President Lyndon B . Johnson is in the background .
