dated
8
July
2014
,
Lance
Jensen
identified
the
driver
as
Teddy
Eastaugh
rather
than
Martin
Crimmins
:
"The
Lomen
Bros.
inscription
at the
bottom
of the
photo
says
it
is
the
Capt.
Crimmins
entry
for the
4th
AAS
(1911)
, and the
description
info.
under
the
photo
says
that
perhaps
the
team
is
being
led
by him
(meaning
Crimmins).
Crimmins
did
enter
a
team
in that
race
, but the
driver
was
Teddy
Eastaugh.
From the
April
8
,
1911
edition
of The
Nome
Nugget
paper
: '
Teddy
Eastaugh
with
Capt.
Crimmins
'
team
of
Siberians
, the
last
team
to
leave
the
scratch
, was
received
with a
mighty
cheer.
' The
race
results/updates
over
the
next
few
days
also
list
Eastaugh
as the
driver
of the
Crimmins
team.
"
Six
teams
ran
that
race
, and
included
drivers
John
'
Iron
Man
'
Johnson
,
Scotty
Allan
,
Fay
Delzene
,
Edward
Coke
Hill
,
Charles
Johnson
and
Teddy
Eastaugh.
Scotty
Allan
won
this
race.
John
Johnson
became
completely
snow-blind
on the
return
trip
and was
unable
to
see
any of his
dogs.
All
he
could
do
was
hold
onto the
sled.
His
trustworthy
leader
,
Colma
,
led
the
Johnson
team
to the
checkpoint
at
Safety.

at
Timber

apparently
fresh.
But the
dogs
refused
